Great Wall

Today Mason woke up at 3 a.m., which of course meant Dustin was awake at 3 a.m. We both found out Heather was awake at 12:30 a.m. I guess we're still getting used to our jet lag and time zone change.

We spent a few hours in our hotel room waiting for the hotel's breakfast buffet to open. We watched some TV in a language we didn't understand, read some books, played some video games, and then our favorite: watch Mason jump from bed to bed to bed shouting, "You can't catch me!". We did this til we fealt bad for the other hotel guests who migth not want play on the 2nd floor.

At 6:30 a.m., we headed down to the restaurant and had a great meal. It got busy quick, but Mason enjoyed darting between people as he refilled his apple juice glass & got more breakfast sausages & sushi. Dustin finally met his match in a soup that he described as "Hot water filtered through a dirty sock". Guess he can't eat everything!

After breakfast we waited for our guide, and hung out at the inner gardens they have there.

At 9 a.m. we went in our shuttle van and headed out of Beijing to The Great Wall. We found out that the last time we were there, we went to a very busy location, and one visited by many of the Chinese. The section we went to today was a little farther out, but not busy at all.

As a bonus, we got to ride a cable car or chair lift up (we chose the chair lift) and ride a toboggan wheeled sled down that would rival the Dells if they added water. Mason did great til the last 3 climbs on the wall, so he got a boost from dad.

We were all hot & sweaty, and happy to get to our hotel room for a shower & recloth.

Due to a multi-family from Norway visiting tomorrow for a plane transfer, our guide wanted to move the Kung Fu show from tomorrow afternoon to today's afternoon. Not a problem, except we all took a nap before hand and could barely get out of bed to meet up at 4. Luckily, Dustin set an alarm and we made it to the lobby in time to be picked up at 4:20 p.m.

The "Legend of Kung Fu" was a great theatrical show, showing a boy leaving his mom at a young age to join the Kung Fu monestary, and be taught by the old master. It went through many scenes and ended with the master passing on the scepter & title to the young boy turned master.

When we got back, we weren't very hungry & very sleepy, so we decided we could go to Pizza Hut for supper instead of the many neat-sounding ones a few blocks further away. Hopefully we can visit one of them tomorrow. However, the Pizza Hut's here in China are very different, and way upscale.

I tried to order the Quail Egg & Squid on a stick appetizer, but they didn't have any there yet. Instead I got something else not as fun, coffee, and Seafood Jambalaya. There was Tabasco on every table! Heather got a cheese pizze, and Mason ordered a spaghetti and meatball children meal. He ate all of 7 bites before going to sleep on mom's lap as a pillow. It was actually all very interesting.

Now we're going to bed early. Mason watched a shark show on TV for a while as I downloaded all of our pictures & videos for the day off our phone & cameras, and then I put a cartoon movie on my phone to let him watch. He fell asleep 20 minutes later. Heather fell asleep 10 minutes before that even, and for some reason I'm typing this in tonight while I have access to the computer. It's 9:34 pm.

A fun day, today. Mason is being a great traveller!
